About BioMed Diagnostics, Inc.

BioMed Diagnostics got its start in 1989 after a group of physicians returned from a mercy mission in Central America. Due to the lack of adequate laboratory facilities and supplies they experienced while working in the field, they found it difficult to accurately diagnose patients. This prompted the development of a way to package diagnostics for field use which did not require an extensive laboratory facility, expensive equipment or the need for refrigeration.

Initially, a liquid medium was developed to grow the organism Trichomonas vaginalis, with plastic packaging which allowed the medium to be kept at room temperature for up to twelve months. Soon thereafter, another liquid medium was developed to grow a similar organism, Tritrichomonas foetus, which infects cattle and cats. These products are now the InPouchTM TV and InPouchTM TF diagnostic kits.

BioMed's next innovative product development was a rigid package design to accommodate solid microbiology media. The goal was to make a package that could be carried wherever needed, offered an extended shelf life and would require no refrigeration. Additionally, BioMed designed a device that could be used with a microscope to observe the organism directly without having to open the package and be exposed to biological specimens.  These products are now the InTrayTM  diagnostic kits.

The resealable label-cover of the InTrayTM packaging, contains an optically-clear anti-fog window covering the media; this allows observation with or without a microscope. An integrated gas-permeable vent provides air exchange growth of aerobic organisms without risk of contamination or escape of pathogens.

The InTrayTM  diagnostic products now includes the InTrayTM DM for detection and identification of dermatophytoses (e.g. tinea, 'ringworm'); the InTrayTM ColorexTM Yeast for detection and identification of Candida; the InTrayTM ColorexTM Screen for detection and identification of selected pathogenic bacteria, and the InTrayTM GC for detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

BioMed Diagnostics has an established reputation with products widely used throughout the United States and in more than seventy countries worldwide. Our Microbiology Department continues to develop and investigate a wide range of additional innovative media and device designs. BioMed is also your go-to source for specialty media and custom microbiology applications--offering stock, modified or custom microbiology media in a variety of formats, including the InPouchTM and InTrayTM.
